1 – Belize Blue Hole
Rated by famed French marine biologist Jacques Cousteau as a Top 10 site globally, the Belize Blue Hole is a true natural wonder. Easily recognizable from satellites in space, the Blue Hole offers unique challenges to even the most experienced divers.
2 – ATM Cave
Short for “Actun Tunichil Muknal” Cave, ATM was one of the few Maya ceremonial sites to remain undiscovered by Europeans. Only discovered again by accident in the 1980s, ATM Cave is a giant subterranean labyrinth that still holds the skeletal remains of children who were sacrificed to appease angry Maya gods.
3 – Museum of Belize
Used as a fearsome prison during the colonial days, today, this stately building in the heart of Belize City is a museum showcasing the unique history and cultural diversity of the country.
4 – Ziplining
Belize has some of the longest zip lines in the world, steel cables strung between old growth rainforest trees, allowing participants to sail through the canopy for up to three miles.
5 – Goff’s Caye
One of the most popular islands to visit, Goff’s Caye is located just offshore from Belize City and makes an excellent place to relax, enjoy a picnic, and marvel at the beauty of the Caribbean.
6 – Laughing Bird Caye National Park
Named for the “laughing gull” that once used this area as a breeding ground, the Laughing Bird Caye National Park is a protected area home to hundreds of species of fish, birds, and marine mammals.
7 – Cave Tubing
Invented in Belize, cave tubing is the art of navigating underground rivers while sitting in an inflatable inner tube.
8 – Government House
The oldest surviving colonial building in Belize, this gorgeous house in Belize City is now a historical museum.
9 – Caracol
One of the largest ancient Maya sites ever discovered, Caracol (which means “snail” in Spanish) got its modern name for the giant winding access road that leads to the site.
10 – Belize Zoo
Less of a zoo than a rescue center and wildlife education facility, the Belize Zoo is home to more than 100 species of indigenous animals, including harpy eagles, crocodiles, monkeys, and jaguars.
11 – Altun Ha
One of Belize’s most famous Maya ruins, the profile of the Temple of the Masonry Altars is used as the logo on Belikin Beer, Belize’s biggest brewery.
