What to expect
Experience four unforgettable days of birdwatching in Belize with one of the country's top birders! From the moment you arrive until your departure, all your needs will be taken care of, including meals and transportation. Relax and immerse yourself in the beauty of Belize's avian diversity, while we ensure a seamless and enriching adventure tailored just for you.
Day 1: Arrival and Relaxation
Meet and greet at Belize International Airport
Upon your arrival at Belize International Airport, you’ll be greeted by a driver who will have ice cold water waiting. Enjoy a quick 20-minute transfer to the Black Orchid Resort, a boutique style jungle resort nestled alongside Belize River
Lamanai Tour
At 8:00 AM, your driver will pick you up from the lobby for a full-day excursion to the Lamanai Maya Site. Be sure to dress appropriately and bring insect repellent, as the area is known for its mosquitoes. The adventure begins with a 40-minute drive north to Orange Walk, followed by a 40-minute boat ride on the New River and lagoon to Lamanai.
Lamanai, located on the banks of the New River Lagoon in the Orange Walk district, is best accessed by riverboat. This scenic boat ride offers an excellent opportunity to observe wildlife, including water birds, iguanas, bats, and crocodiles. The lush flora and fauna of the Lamanai reserve will also captivate nature enthusiasts.
Enjoy an authentic Belizean Lunch.
Return to Black Orchid Resort for an evening dip in the pool and then dinner.
Morning Birding Tour
At 6:00 AM, meet your guide at the dock for a 2-hour river cruise on the Belize Old River. This tour promises both educational and adventurous experiences as you explore the diverse flora and fauna. You may spot a variety of birds such as the White-necked Jacobin, Ruddy Crake, Crested Guan, Plain Chachalaca, and Bare-throated Tiger Heron, among others.
Rest and Relaxation
After returning to the resort for breakfast, enjoy a leisurely day at your own pace. Take advantage of the resort’s kayaks and canoes to explore the surrounding waters or relax by the pool.
In the evening, return to the resort for dinner.
6:00AM Birding Tour on property with insights into the local birding opportunities and the local village’s history. You may encounter birds such as the boat-billed flycatcher, night heron, Anhinga, and gray-necked wood rail.
Enjoy breakfast and then explore Belize city history and culture. Stop for lunch at one of Belize’s hot spots, Birds Isle Restaurant and then off to Crooked Tree Village for a 2-hour Sunset Boat Tour on the lagoon.
During this evening tour, your guide will provide insights into the lagoon’s birding opportunities and the local village’s history. You may encounter birds such as the boat-billed flycatcher, night heron, Anhinga, and gray-necked wood rail. Enjoy an informative and engaging tour.
Enjoy a 5-course farewell dinner by the poolside under the moonlight.
